In 1986, Toxey Haas wanted to get closer to turkeys in the forests of Mississippi and Alabama. He looked down at a pile of tree bark, dirt, sticks, and leaves and found his answer. That pile became the blueprint for Bottomland, the first pattern Mossy Oak ever introduced, and still one of the most natural-looking camouflage patterns the hunting world has seen. Or not seen.
Bottomland wasn't designed in a studio. It was built from the ground itself. The pattern doesn't just pull inspiration from nature, it uses the actual elements you're looking to blend in with to create depth, layers, and a natural landscape.
Updated in 2003 with a slightly muddier depth, Bottomland became the go-to for anyone who hunts with their back against a tree: duck hunters in flooded timber, turkey hunters in the hardwoods, deer hunters from a stand. Nearly four decades later, it's not just functional camo. It's a cultural symbol, one of the most recognized patterns in American hunting.
